The Anchorage Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Diagnostic Team is a community collaboration supported by the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority and State of Alaska FASD Diagnostic Services Provider Agreement. Our goal is to provide a high quality diagnosis for individuals who have a history of prenatal alcohol exposure. The long term goal is to follow individuals who have received a diagnosis to determine if the recommendations made as a result of the diagnostic process are achievable and make a difference in the lives of those who have been served.
The FASD Diagnostic Team process involves evaluation by a medical provider, psychologist, occupational or physical therapist, and speech language pathologist with the support of a team coordinator and parent navigator. The comprehensive nature of the evaluation provides a 'road map' of how prenatal alcohol exposure has impacted the individual being seen. Every person who has had prenatal alcohol exposure has a different 'presentation' because the dose of alcohol, timing of drinking during the pregnancy, and genetics of the mother and baby all create an outcome that is unique for each individual. |
